'Ant-Man' movie plot to be set in the past, female Marvel hero joins cast

Right now, "Ant-Man" is being filmed in Atlanta but the plot for the movie is still unclear. There have been speculations that Peyton Reed's "Ant-Man" will either feature a time travel plot or a flashback-heavy plot. Lately, the clues look like its pointing to a little bit of both.

In "Ant-Man," Hank Pym (to be played by Michael Douglas) will definitely be connected to his past. How sure is this? It's because a look-alike for actress Hayley Atwell is being cast for the movie, according to Project Casting. Based on the site, Marvel is actually looking for a stand-in for Atwell, who played Agent Peggy Carter in "Captain America." Agent Carter also had a one-shot in the "Iron-Man 3" Blu-ray disc. Now, the casting call sort of assures that Agent Carter will be in "Ant-Man" as well.

However, what is Agent Carter doing in a movie that is set in modern times, given that she was actually born way back in the 1920s? Fans will recall that she fought with The Captain in World War II, and she was featured as an elderly woman in "The Winter Soldier." This could be a dead giveaway that "Ant-Man" will actually feature a time-travel device for Scott Lang (to be played by Paul Rudd) to go back to the past or that Lang will experience tons of flashbacks in the movie.

Aside from Agent Carter's casting call, another evidence of this plot is the casting call for a younger Hank Pym in the movie. Plus, a younger Howard Stark was already cast for the movie as well. The role will be played by John Slattery, who also appeared in "Iron Man 2."

According to Cinema Blend, Agent Carter may just appear in a cameo role to give aid to Hank in the past. Her role in Hank's past may actually "lay the groundwork for events" of the modern time.

Meanwhile, Marvel fans can look forward to seeing more of Hayley Atwell as Agent Carter in her own show coming to ABC in January 2015.
