With the rumored release of three new iPhones for 2018, users are already busy predicting what new features and specifications they will see from the top-selling smartphone brand.

According to Asian website Nikkei, a source involved in the new projects shared information that Apple is planning to release a smartphone with a liquid crystal display (LCD) and two newer phones with organic light-emitting diode displays (OLED).

The source also said that the new model will probably take after the default metal black cover of its predecessors that will be available in several colors and will be 6.1 inches in length. The two other phones will come in different sizes, one at 6.3 inches long and the other at 5.8 inches.

The 6.3-inch phone is expected to resemble the iPhone X with an OLED screen that covers almost the entire front-end of the phone. The smaller phone will also have the same screen.

All three phones will have aluminum or stainless steel frames and glass back panels.

Apple's decision to switch to OLED displays from the standard LCD are attributed to the company's desire to stay in the lead in terms of the quality of pictures, videos, and overall display

OLED screens are known to make smartphone screens sharper, have better contrast and brighter colors than LCD screens. It is also surprisingly flexible, which would allow future phones to have curved or even foldable designs. This is the reason why more mobile phone companies have started using OLED screens for their units.

The downside to this is that OLED screens are far more expensive than LCDs, which would mean that iPhones are only going to become more expensive.

To address this, Apple has reportedly considered using advanced LCD panels made in Japan. These LCD panels are said to rival OLED screens but are much cheaper, which would help the company sell their products if they are planning to expand to a broader market.
