The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) film "Aquaman" is finally entering production stage, and filming starts off in the land down under.

The highly anticipated film is set to focus on Aquaman himself being caught in between land dwellers who continue to pollute the earth and his own people who are eager to invade the surface. It was previously reported that although the release date of "Aquaman" has been pushed back to December 2018, filming will begin this month.

Fortunately, the team behind the DCEU superhero film seems to have followed the schedule as director James Wan recently announced on Twitter that filming has officially begun. He posted a photo inside what looks like a submarine, with a clapper that has the movie's working title "Ahab" printed on it. He captioned the photo, "Months of intensive prep have led to this. Here we go. #DayOne #Ahab"

According to The Courier Mail, production is currently taking place in Australia, at the Village Roadshow Studios in Gold Coast, Queensland. In fact, the cast and production team received a warm welcome in Australia, being greeted with a "welcome to our country" ceremony by a group of indigenous Goodingburra dancers. The publication also reports that with the upcoming Hollywood blockbuster being filmed in Queensland, it will put in "$160 million into the local economy" and provide jobs to at least 600 locals.

Filming will be done in Newfoundland, Tunisia, and Sicily as well. However, before his solo movie premieres next year, Jason Momoa is set to portray Aquaman in the upcoming "Justice League" film this November. He also made a quick debut in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" last year as Arthur Curry.

"Aquaman" is scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 21, 2018. It stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master/Orm, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, and Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna.
