'Arrow' season 4 finale spoilers: Multiple casualties teased

Following the sudden death of Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) in "Arrow" season 4, the main characters have been vigilant on ending Damien Darhk's (Neal McDonough) reign of terror. According to a report from TVLine, however, that end will not come without multiple casualties happening first.

Showrunner Wendy Mericle revealed that the finale will finally showcase how the Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) will be able to defeat Darhk's magic but this doesn't necessarily mean the former will be able to stop Darhk from executing his destructive plans. As a matter of fact, it is hinted that the entirety of Star City will be destroyed.

Mericle teased that the Biblical Book of Genesis would be a good clue as to what kind of damage Darhk would deal to the city and its residents, indicating that the finale episode will see thousands of people die. According to the report, the season 4 finale is even bigger in scale than the season 2 finale, which saw an army invade the city from all sides.

"t's a pretty grim one, I'm sad to say. We have a huge number of potential fatalities," explained the showrunner. "And you'll definitely get a hint about where the team is headed for Season 5."

According to a report from Melty, it now appears that season 4 may end on a cliffhanger. This will be a far cry from previous seasons which concluded their respective season story, particularly season 3 which saw the Green Arrow momentarily retire and drive off with Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards).

The titles of the last four episodes also give clues on the level of destruction that is about to occur. Episode 20 is titled "Genesis," hinting of the city's destruction and rebirt. The penultimate episode is titled "Lost in the Flood," hinting that Darhk will unleash natural disasters to destroy Star City.

The "Arrow" season 4 finale will air on May 25.
