Asus ZenFone 2 release date, specs rumors: Deluxe Special Edition unveiled

Although a good number of phones still carry expandable storage support via microSD, many of today's recently-released flagships eschew the trend, and instead furnish their lineups with more than an ample amount of internal storage. However, power users and tech-savvy smartphone owners, particularly those who handle heavy data from apps and files, find the 64- and 128-GB devices lacking in storage.

Realizing that a step up in storage will be a niche market, Asus has unveiled a ZenFone 2 Deluxe Special Edition smartphone. One of the flagships under the ZenFone 2 lineup, the base-device Deluxe was launched first in India as part of the ZenFest event. The ZenFone 2 Deluxe, aside from taking a page off the well-rounded specs of the original ZenFone 2, has been built with premium look and feel in mind – the Deluxe has a multifaceted polygonal finish, making the device look like a cut diamond while still maintaining the ZenFone 2's Ergonomic Arc design.

Launching the new ZenFone 2 lineups in Sao Paolo, Brazil, Asus CEO Jerry Shen said that the announcement will open the new flagships to the Latin American market.

Shen also extolled the new ZenFone 2 iterations, saying, "They offer Latin American consumers empowering luxury with perfectly-balanced beauty, functionality and performance, together with a premium user experience that can be tailored to the individual needs of mobile users."

Meanwhile, Asus also surprised its fans by unveiling a Special Edition of the ZenFone 2 Deluxe, with a whopping 256 GB of internal storage.

Aside from the massive ROM, the Deluxe Special Edition will also come out in two exclusive colors, the high-tech looking Carbon Night and crystal-like Drift Silver. Moreover, the Special Edition will be carrying the same 13- and 5-MP PixelMaster cameras at the rear and front, and also the proprietary Asus BoostMastr fast-charge technology that charges the device for up to 60 percent of its battery capacity in just 39 minutes.

The same as the original Deluxe, the Special Edition will also feature a 5.5-inch Full HD display and a 64-bit Intel Atom processor partnered with a monster-sized 4 GB RAM.
