The Atlanta Hawks look to add veteran leadership to strengthen their roster for the 2015–16 season as they are reportedly signing 13-year guard Jason Richardson to a non-guaranteed contract.

Richardson has been battling knee woes since 2013, even missing the entire 2013–14 season but returned last February and played 19 games (15 starts) for the Philadelphia 76ers.

In 19 games he averaged 9.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 21.9 minutes of action per outing.

Not considering the number of games he played, Richardson's scoring, rebounding, and playing time averages last season were career-lows.

Before playing for the 76ers, Richardson had stints with the Golden State Warriors (drafted him fifth-overall in 2001), the then Charlotte Bobcats, Phoenix Suns, and the Orlando Magic.

Throughout his entire career in the National Basketball Association (NBA), Richardson has proved that he can contribute efficiently on both ends of the court and if fully healthy, is a legit offensive threat.

The 34-year-old guard may have tallied career-lows with his averages last season in his return, but those numbers are acceptable coming from a player who is bouncing back from an injury that sidelined him for an entire season.

If the Hawks pursue the deal for Richardson, he will likely be a backup to Hawks shooting guards Kent Bazemore and Draft night trade acquisition Tim Hardaway Jr.

Richardson, who stands 6 feet 6 inches tall, can also be a reserve at the small forward position and ease the playing minutes for the likes of All-Star Kyle Korver and Thabo Sefolosha.

The departure of forward DeMarre Carroll who signed with the Toronto Raptors as a free agent earlier this offseason can also pave the way for Richardson to have more minutes.

Atlanta finished the regular season sitting on top of the Eastern Conference and were one of the title favorites in the 2014–15 season.

Unfortunately, a number of setbacks on and off the court hindered them from reaching the NBA Finals as they were eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the conference finals.
