Due to the popularity of Intel's lineup of Atom processors, the leading desktop, laptop and server processor making company has decided to extend the product diversity of its chips. In the future, Intel will be offering its Core X3, X5 and X7 series of processors from its Atom brand to smartphone and tablet manufacturers to incorporate into their future mobile devices. The X3 will be the lowest performing chip out of the entire lot, followed by the X5, and then the X7.

Similar to the i7 brand of processors, the Atom X7 will be able to deliver higher performance compared to the remaining two products since it will be featuring more cores and higher clocks. On the other hand, the X5 and X3 chips will be watered down versions of the X7 and will be assimilated in to smartphones and tablets that will be targeting the middle and lower tier markets.

In addition, Intel is also gearing up to release its Atom lineup of processors belonging to the Broadwell architecture. Afterwards, the next products that will exude even greater processing performance and energy efficiency will be the tech firm's Airmont architecture, followed by Sofia. In a nutshell, Intel is aiming to make a transition from the 22 nm process to the 14 nm process when its Atom lineup is concerned.

Since these chips are primarily being rolled out to be placed in upcoming mobile devices, it is expected that additional embedded features such as a built-in LTE modem will be present (which is similar to Qualcomm's chipsets). While the Intel Atom X3, X5 and X7 processors will be present in smartphones and tablets, the company's Core 'I' and Core 'M' brand of processors will be present in upcoming laptops and hybrid devices, such as the highly anticipated Surface Pro 4.
