Season 4 of Cinemax's action-drama "Banshee" will be the last of the Jonathan Tropper and David Schickler's series.

Mstarz confirms the news after co-creator Tropper posted several messages on Twitter. He assured, however, that the ending of the new installment is not in any way "contrived." He said that they owe it to the fans to give "a natural end" to the story.

"I felt pressure to come up with a 5th season, but to me there is nothing more disappointing than a show that doesn't know when it's over. So we made the gut-wrenching decision to end our run rather than risk a sub par season 5. It hurts, but I know it's the right move," Tropper stated.

Tropper also said that the writers took their time concluding the action-packed season 4. He revealed that they were currently shooting the "insane finale" that would wrap up the show in "an emotionally satisfying way."

Meanwhile, executive producer Greg Yaitanes told TV Guide during the last season's finale that they always knew "Banshee" had "a limited premise and lifespan." He said this made them go the extra mile to deliver the best episodes every time. According to him, they were grateful that Cinemax gives them the opportunity to end the show "respectfully" when the time comes.

He said that they had three "solid" acts to tell Lucas's story and could not be more excited to start working on the next chapter. The executive producer also promised that the first 10 minutes of season 4 would have "jaws on the floor" and leave people guessing about what's coming next.

"It'll be everything that people take from the show, but you're going see a completely unexpected season that will leave people guessing as to where we're going with it."

"Banshee" season 4 returns in 2016.
