'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' plot news: Early screening receives standing ovation

An early cut of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" was recently screened to the film's crew and the executives of Warner Bros. According to a report from Den of Geek, the latter were so impressed that they gave the film a standing ovation and are reportedly signing Ben Affleck on for more Batman solo films.

The version of the film that was screened was an unfinished cut. However, the report's sources state that "it's a near finished cut but not locked," meaning that further editing may be done to either cut a few scenes out or add some in. Additional special effects, dialogue loops, and possible reshoots may also be added until the film is released next year.

Getting a standing ovation from the people that made the film is, perhaps, not much to hold on to but it shows that the executives believe in their film. It is the exact opposite of what occurred to the recent "Fantastic Four" film where 20th Century Fox hid the film from critics and placed an embargo on reviews, indicating that they knew the film would fail.

However, the biggest effect of the screening is the response the senior executives had over Affleck's portrayal of Batman. Not only are they reportedly signing Affleck on to write, star, and direct a trilogy of Batman films but it is said that they are also making the DC Extended Universe revolve around his character now instead of just around Henry Cavill's Superman.

This is generally similar to the reception the Warner Bros. senior executives gave to Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" back in 2013, but when the movie came out, critics and fans alike were divided in their opinions.

Just because Warner Bros. likes what Warner Bros. makes it doesn't necessarily mean the rest of the world will, but here's hoping that the movie is a success because a lot rides on it such as "Suicide Squad," "Wonder Woman," and the solo Batman flicks.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" opens in theaters on March 25, 2016.
