Following the initial reports which claimed that the highly popular online first-person shooter video game "Battleborn" was going to be transitioning to a free-to-play business model, the game's developers have now confirmed that there is actually no truth to any of the widespread rumors.

Gearbox Software clarified that they had no plans of changing the game's business model, but they did confirm that there may be a free trial that will be offered very soon.

Several reports had previously mentioned that the game itself was meant to be released as a free to play game which will include some in-game purchases. At some point, the developers apparently decided to sell the game as a full release at $60 a pop. The rumors may have gotten out of hand, which might be the reason why Gearbox Software's CEO — Randy Pitchford — had to step forward to debunk the aforementioned claims that the game was going to be re-released as a free-to-play game.

Pitchford even mentioned in a series of tweets that the rumor regarding the alleged transition was "reckless." He outright proclaimed that there was no truth to any of it. To appease the game's fans who were probably disappointed with the news, Pitchford mentioned that they actually have plans to offer a free trial version of the game.

However, he clarified that they still have no firm date as of yet. Aside from the upcoming free trial version of the game, the CEO also teased that they will have an "awesome line up" of downloadable content (DLC) coming out for the game.

"Battleborn" was originally released back in May 3, and was made available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and for Windows PC. The game itself is a combination of a hero shooter and a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game. Since its release, the game had experienced decent sales numbers, outperforming the original "Borderlands" title during the same time period.
