An online survey shows that the largest chunk of "Battlefield" fans are hoping that the next instalment of the hit shooter game will be set in the late 1940s at the height of the second World War.

In a survey created by game analyst, Jack Frag, fans were asked whether they would want to see "Battlefield 5" set in World War 1, World War 2, a modern day setting, a near future setting or a sci-fi setting. Of the estimated 55,000 fans who voted in the poll, 26,000 people voted that they wanted to see "Battlefield 2016" in a World War 2 setting, while none of the other choices made more than 10,000 votes.

While the survey is nowhere connected with official developers nor does it cover for the whole "Battlefield" fan base, it is a good measure of a well-distributed representation of the game's fan base.

A 2016 rendition of the game was confirmed after Dan Vaderlind posted a tweet last month that he would be moving from "Star Wars: Battlefront" to working on "Battlefield 5." His tweet said, "Now that we've shipped Battlefront and a part of the team continues to work on it, I am moving on to another project, the next Battlefield.."

The "Battlefied" series is a first-person shooter game developed by Swedish company EA DICE and is published by Electronic Arts. The game features a large variety of weapons, maps, war peripherals and many more and has grown in popularity since it was released back in Sept. 10, 2002.

Trusted Reviews gives the game series a rating of 8 out of 10 listing pros like stealth and arrest mechanics, destructible scenery and great multiplayer modes.

The most recent selections for the "Battlefield: Hardline" and "Battlefield 4" line-up of games are compatible with the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows with the exception of "Night Operations," "Community Operations" and "Legacy Operations."
