Developer DICE is releasing a brand new, 100 percent free DLC for "Battlefield 4" titled Legacy Operations. Last year the company asked fans via a poll what content they wanted to be included, and the latest announcement from the game's official website reveals that it will contain an updated Dragon Valley map.

The map, conveniently titled Dragon Map 2015, will be an update from the original version, which premiered as far back as "Battlefield 2." The original map was based on a Chinese river valley and the announcement did confirm that a few changes were made to make the map more compatible with newer technology.

DICE explains that the original map had to deal with shorter draw distances and that some parts of the map were built around that limitation. With stronger hardware, DICE altered the map a bit by making it larger vertically and by adding in a new cloud layer that will be central in making aerial combat more engaging for the players.

However, the original map was very large and focused on several set-pieces such as a destructable bridge and numerous flag points. These are said to remain in the new updated version that will be seen in "Battlefield 4."

Dragon Valley 2015 and the rest of the Legacy Operations DLC will release for free before the end of 2015, presumably before the Christmas holidays; however, it will only release for the PC, Xbox One and PS4. DICE explains that while they do have plans for PS3 and Xbox 360 players, the maps of this DLC are simply too big for older consoles to suport.

"This doesn't mean we're no longer supporting players on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with critical updates when needed, but we really wanted to try something big for Dragon Valley, and we think that when you play it, you'll see the difference," DICE explains on its official blog.
