HBO has recently officially confirmed that the Emmy Award-winning mystery show "Big Little Lies" will actually be getting a second season. While the first season may have ended in itself, all that is left for fans to wonder now is how the second season will go and when it will air.

Fans and even the show's creator, David Kelly, hoped that it would be out by next year. However, try as they might, the show, unfortunately, will not get a 2018 release. "We're trying to have something locked, posted, and done for the beginning of 2019," says Kelly in an interview with Hollywood Reporter.

Making this statement, fans might still be hopeful that they could release it by late next year. However, during production, things can also go south that the team may delay the second season release by a few months later than expected.

As for what the it will be, nobody really knows how the story will unfold. Kelly himself said at first that there was not much he could do about the show's future. He apparently had ideas, but he also did not want to take the driver's seat of the show's storyline. Fortunately, he found a silver lining when he met up with Liane Moriarty, the writer of the novel where the show is based on.

"We went back to Liane and asked her if she had anything else to throw at us. She thought on it and turned over a novella with different directions the series could go in," says Kelly. "It was such a rich springboard for me to jump off. As the progress goes, you discover if it's fertile or not — but the further I got, the more excited I became that this series had a future in it."

That said, fans can even wonder if that novella by Moriarty can even go beyond season 2 given the "different directions". For now, it is at least exciting to know that there definitely is a season 2 happening not so far from the first season.
