Bishop Defends Christian Peacemakers After Iraqi Kidnappings

In an interview with BBC Radio 4's Today programme, the Bishop of Jerusalem defended Christian Peacemakers Teams after the kidnapping of four of its workers in Iraq, saying that to risk your life for peace was a "worthy cause".

When asked if workers like Norman Kember were "irresponsible to ignore the warnings", Bishop Riah Abu El-Assal told listeners to Monday's programme that CPT were "committed". He said CPT wanted "to represent the Christian community better than what has been presented to the Iraqi people...They have taken the right decision to stay and present a different story of the people of Iraq".
