A new video that has surfaced online shows the BlackBerry Passport running what clearly looks to be the Android operating system (OS).

To be more specific, the BlackBerry Passport is featured as it runs the Android Lollipop OS.

Right from the very start, it has been made clear that the BlackBerry Passport is unmistakably running the Android Lollipop OS, complete with all the functions that are part of the firmware. The video continues with the BlackBerry Passport seen also showcasing the familiar Android home screen and even the Google Play app, according to The Verge.

The video arrives at an interesting time, especially with all the news suggesting that BlackBerry has grown to be more accepting of the Android OS.

BlackBerry has reportedly been looking into forming a stronger bond with the Android OS, and a sure sign of this is that the company has already made some of their previously exclusive apps available on the Google platform, according to ZD Net.

On top of that, BlackBerry is also said to be in the process of developing a new phone, codenamed Venice, that will be the first the company has made that will fully function using the Android OS.

Despite BlackBerry seemingly indicating that they may be taking a different direction in terms of what OS they will be featuring in their phones, it's still unclear if the company will eventually let their own OS simply fade away.

One indicator that seems to suggest that the company is not abandoning their own OS just yet is that the video itself still shows some features from the BlackBerry OS.

If BlackBerry is reluctant to let their own OS go, then the current dalliance with Android may be more of a passing fancy as opposed to the beginning of a long relationship.
