Gearbox Software wants its attention all to its online first-person shooter video game "Battleborn" first, which is why "Borderlands 3" is at the backburner at the moment.

"Battleborn" was released early this month to a fairly positive reception. Gearbox is spending most of its time to enrich the game. In fact, a double XP event was held for it in the past weekend. The studio is also prepping up for the launch of the hero shooter's first DLC next week.

The initial results for the launch of "Battleborn" early this month are "encouraging," according to Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, parent company of "Battleborn" publisher 2K Games.

He, however, told GameSpot that fans may want to hold off comparing the new game to "Borderlands" unless the necessary information about this is available.

Going back to "Borderlands 3," the highly-anticipated installment is officially on the agenda. Discussions about the game have already started behind Gearbox's doors.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Gearbox CEO and President Randy Pitchford teased that while they can't offer details about the game right now, fans will learn more about it in "Battleborn" and its future DLCs.

"There's already a lot of Borderlands easter eggs in Battleborn," Pitchford said. "But they're all from previous Borderlands games. So what if we put easter eggs for future stuff in the DLC?" he mused.

"Battleborn" creative director Randy Varnell is all for the idea. That being said, it will be great for fans to explore and try the newly released shooter as they wait for "Borderlands 3."

Not only will they get a taste of Gearbox's new IP, they will also get to learn more information about the upcoming "Borderlands" installment.

Gearbox chief creative Mikey Neumann will write the story for "Borderlands 3." He teased in the same Eurogamer interview that he created a new character, Scooter's son Scooper.

Voiced by Neumann, Scooter is one of the main characters in "Borderlands." The inclusion of Scooter's son would mean that "Borderlands 3" might focus on a new generation of heroes.

Neumann emphasized, however, that nothing is set in stone yet. There are also no details yet on the release date, as well as the platforms that will carry the game.
