The knock out stages have begun and with it there should be more drama compared to the more tactical and calm group stages. The winner of today's game will move into the quarter finals and face the victor of the game between Japan and Holland.

Ahead of today's game, Brazil coach Vadao reflected: "Costa Rica fought hard, but we kept attacking and eventually managed to score the winning goal. This victory will give us a good confidence boost ahead of our Round of 16 game with Australia."

Meanwhile, Australia coach Alen Stajcic will be hoping to pull of another shock and take down the South American giants. He has said, "I'm obviously very proud of the team. I read a lot of reports before the tournament and I don't think one predicted us to progress. The first ten minutes [against Sweden] were fantastic, and then we lost some composure for a while. A tough game and not a pretty one to watch perhaps, but this gives us so much belief that we can take on the best and beat them in the knockout rounds."

Australia came through Group D as runners up to get here today, although through the group games they only managed to win once. Today they will take on a Brazil team on fire, who qualified from their group with a perfect record; three wins from their three games. Brazil are also still yet to concede a goal in this year's tournament, showing just what a challenge awaits the Australian team today.

Most pundits predict a Brazil win today, and if history is anything to go by Australia will drop out today - they have never managed to defeat Brazil in all their previous meetings.

In 2007 these teams met in the World Cup quarter finals, only for Brazil to win through 3-2 in a dramatic game. Four years ago Brazil again defeated Australia, defeating them 1-0 in the group stages.

In addition, every time the Australian women's team has been to the Olympics, they have played Brazil and lost each time.

However, despite that there is a belief surrounding the team this year. They have managed to upset the odds in their group to qualify in second, and they believe they have what it takes to put pressure on Brazil and force errors. Whether they will be able to win though remains to be seen.
