Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has been dropping hints and details about future Marvel films while attending press events for "Ant-Man." He has also recently shared a few details regarding Black Panther's role in the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War," via an interview with BirthMoviesDeath. 

T'Challa aka Black Panther, to be played by Chadwick Boseman, did not play a big part in the "Civil War" comic books but his role is being substantially increased for the film adaptation. When asked why the studios chose to go with Black Panther, Feige responded with the following:

"The reason we introduced him in 'Civil War' is because we needed a third party. We needed fresh eyes who wasn't embedded with the Avengers and who has a very different point of view than either Tony or Steve. We said, 'We need somebody like Black Panther ... why don't we just use Black Panther?' That's how it went in the development process." 

Feige continued to explain that vibranium plays a big reason why T'Challa and his father, T'Chaka, the current King of Wakanda, are getting involved in "Civil War." Ultron primarily sought vibranium to create a more powerful body and, ultimately, to destroy the human race. The fictional African nation of Wakanda, the most technologically advanced nation in the Marvel Universe, is rich in vibranium and now, T'Challa and his father intervene to prevent further misuse from occurring. 

It is also unclear how or when T'Challa will appear as Black Panther. Feige refused to elaborate in fears of spoiling the movie but did hint that T'Challa has just begun taking on the mantle of Black Panther. He also hints that T'Chaka might have been the Black Panther before or that he may have just passed the responsibilities to his son. 

"Captain America: Civil War" will open in theaters on May 6, 2016 while the solo "Black Panther" movie is scheduled for 2018.
