If the Panthers can win today then they will be chasing a 16-0 season next week in the regular season finale. However, more important than records, Carolina want to lock down the NFC No. 1 seed spot to ensure they home field advantage throughout the Playoffs.

Last week the Panthers were pushed all the way by the New York Giants, but once again Carolina came through 38-35.

The ill-tempered game saw an intense climax as the Giants came storming back to close a 28 point deficit. New York tied the game in the fourth by matching an NFL record for biggest comebacks, only for the Panthers to dip their noses in front at the death, with Graham Gano producing a 43 yard field goal as time ran out.

Carolina have already won the NFC South division, but now can claim the NFC top seed spot with a win over the 7-7 Falcons, and they will close the season at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next week.

In NFL history, the three previous teams to get to 14-0 have gone on to appear in the Super Bowl - the Miami Dolphins in 1972, the New England Patriots in 2007, and the Indianapolis Colts in 2009 - but only the Dolphins went on to win the Super Bowl title.

Earlier this week on Saturday night, the NFC East division was all but concluded, with the Washington Redskins defeating the Philadelphia Eagles to confirm themselves as division champions.

The Redskins clinched the division title, and with it a postseason spot, with a comfortable 38-24 win. Their appearance in the Playoffs this season will be their first since the 2012 season, and comes as a surprise as not many had predicted the Redskins would take the NFC East at the start of the season.

The result means the 8-7 Redskins will play a home Playoff game against the No. 5 seeded team in the NFC. At the moment that would mean a match up against the Seattle Seahawks, which would be a massive challenge as they have made huge strides in the second half of the season and at the moment look like one of the most dangerous teams in the league.

If the results in the coming few weeks shake things up more though, then the Redskins could get a game against the 9-5 Minnesota Vikings, which is another daunting prospect for Washington. However, at the moment the Redskins may just want to enjoy the fact that they're back in the postseason and whoever it turns out they face, what will be will be.

Kirk Cousins has been one of the core reasons the Redskins have managed to surprise people this season, and he has played above everyone's expectations. On Saturday night he completed 31 of 46 throws for 365 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions.

At the start of the season, the Redskins suffered poor form through their opening six games. During that period, Kirk Cousins threw eight interceptions, where as in the nine games since he threw just three.

They will need the new improved Kirk Cousins if they are to make an impact in the Playoffs.
