'Castle' season 8 spoilers: Captain Beckett kisses her man

"Castle" will return with a two-part premiere, one told via Rick's perspective and the other through Kate's lens. ABC has released stills from the second episode, picked up by Entertainment Weekly, and they provide a foretaste of what's about to take place.

Majority of the images show the precinct welcoming Kate as the new captain with tons of clapping and smiling. Rick can't hide how proud he is of the love of his life about the promotion.

In one image, the couple kisses with intense passion, and in another, Kate is shown pointing a gun at someone unseen while Rick looks as if he is stopping her or directing her to get a better aim. One of the photos also provides another look at Toks Olagundoye as Rick's new detective partner Hayley Shipton, who will bring a "fantastic adrenaline shot to the show," as showrunner Terrence Paul Winter said during a chat with TV Line

"Castle" season 8 premieres on Sept. 21 with an episode titled "XY," which is mostly about Kate and Rick's adjustment to the former's career changes (and probably another one if she accepts an offer to run as State Senator). This will go well until "a call from a mysterious stranger sets off an explosive chain of events."

On Sept 28, Kate gets the spotlight with the episode "XX." Here, the foreshadowed danger will be further expounded on as this will tackle "Beckett's side of her abrupt disappearance." Here is the rest of the synopsis grabbed by Entertainment Weekly:

After receiving a mysterious tip from her past, Beckett is launched into a fight for her life, with a team of mercenaries hot on her trail. While Castle investigates why his wife is on the run, Beckett must figure out who wants her dead, before they can finish the job."
