Good news for the Chicago Bulls as point guard and former Most Valuable Player (MVP) Derrick Rose will return in two weeks after undergoing surgery for an orbital fracture suffered during the first day of practice.

Rose was elbowed in the face by a teammate in practice last Tuesday which led to the injury.

But the three-time All-Star had a successful surgery last Wednesday which determined the two-week timetable for his return.

Two weeks is pretty fine for the Bulls since they missed Rose for a longer period of time in the past due to a number of injuries that prevented him from playing a full season since the 2010–11 season.

USA Today Sports mentioned in their report that the 26-year-old point guard missed 212 of the past 312 regular season games due to injuries to his knees, back, groin, ankles, toe, and hamstring.

Last season, Rose played in 51 regular season games which was the most he played since the 2010–11 season.

In the 2014–15 season, he averaged 17.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game.

Rose helped the Bulls reach the second-round of the playoffs but were eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers, who will be their opponent in their opening game for their 2015–16 season.

The former Memphis Tiger played in 12 playoff games and improved his number from the regular season, averaging 20.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 1.2 steals per outing.

Bulls big men Joakim Noah and Pau Gasol spoke about the most recent health setback that hit Rose.

"I know he's really hungry to come in and help lead this team. I think he's good. I mean, as good as can be. It always sucks to be injured and not be able to play the game that you love. But he'll be all right," Noah said, according to the Bulls' website.

Meanwhile Gasol said, according to ESPN, "[The injury] sucks in a way. But he's a tough kid and hopefully he'll heal well and he'll be ready to go."

Nonetheless, the MVP and champion of the recently concluded EuroBasket 2015 said it is "unfortunate" that Rose will miss camp, which is an avenue for them to get back on track, especially since they have a new head coach in Fred Hoiberg.
