Christopher Herrmann's (David Eigenberg) fate will be revealed in the upcoming episode of the NBC series "Chicago Fire."

In "The Beating Heart," Hollywood Hills reports that the entire Firehouse 51 will hold their breath, hoping that their friend and colleague survives the night. Herrmann was stabbed by Freddie (Ralph Rodriguez) in Molly Patron's (Giota Trakas) kitchen before the series went on winter break. Nobody has realized that the incident happened, not until Herrmann went sprawling in the floor due to loss of blood.

With Herrmann's life hanging in balance, his friends wait anxiously while doctors of "Chicago Med" operate on him. Will he get through this ordeal? Rumors are rife that one of the doctors will mess up with the operation. He will reportedly be blamed for not attending to the patient the soonest way possible. This will not bode well with Herrmann, as viewers could see that he was in a bad place last episode.

Meanwhile, Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) will coordinate with "Chicago P.D." to apprehend the culprit, who suddenly went missing. It was not immediately clear why Freddie stabbed Herrmann but that is immaterial now that he is on the run. The city police department is known for its tough agents. Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) will make sure Freddie will not last long being a fugitive, as he and his agents go all out to find him.

Meanwhile, Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund) may end up leaving Firehouse 51 for good if she and boyfriend Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) have plans of getting hitched. This is due to the department's strict rules that firefighters cannot wed each other. Spencer talked to TV Line about the complicated situation between his character and Dawson, saying marriage was "tricky" for them.

Although there would not be wedding bells soon, the actor was quick to calm fans that Dawson and Casey would not be breaking up.

"In their hearts and minds, they are already married. They're together. I don't see them breaking up. I, as Jesse, would be traumatized if they had to break up at this point. I'm a big Dawsey shipper," he said.

"Chicago Fire" season 4 will return with a three-way crossover with "Chicago P.D." and "Chicago Med" on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
