'Chicago Fire' season 5 spoilers: fans can look forward to crossover with 'Chicago PD'

NBC

"Chicago Fire" season 5 is going to have a big crossover event with "Chicago PD" and the ramifications of this crossover will be felt even after the event has been concluded. As stated in a report from Entertainment Weekly, the two shows will feature a unique romance involving characters from both shows.

Paramedic Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) of "Chicago Fire" is going to get involved with Detective Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda). It is further explained that on paper it would appear as if the characters shouldn't be together given that they are quite the opposite of each other but this is exactly what would make for high-level drama.

"There's plenty to play in terms of the May-December version of Brett to Antonio - his character has a couple kids, he's divorced, no way should he be with this woman, but she's had her heart broken. She's looking for a real man, he qualifies. He's looking for a real soul, a real heart, and she qualifies," explained executive producer Matt Olmstead.

The report also points out that this is not the first crossover romance that the two series have explored. In the past there was the relationship between Lindsay (Sophia Bush) of "Chicago PD" and Severide (Taylor Kinney) of "Chicago Fire" but this relationship did bud well.

"Chicago PD" character Platt (Amy Morton) and "Chicago Fire" character Mouch (Christian Stolte), on the other hand, got married. This would indicate that a cross-show romance can work and it can go beyond just a few episodes to the point where a marriage between the two shows is a strength instead of a weakness.

It is undetermined if Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and Detective Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) would stay together for more than just a season or if their affair is just a short-time event.

"Chicago Fire" season 5 is set to premiere on Oct. 11.
