'Chicago P.D.' season 4 spoilers: Voight shows a different side

NBC

"Chicago PD" fans were in for a shock during the season 3 finale when Hank Voight's (Jason Beghe) son was suddenly shot and killed. During the episode, he had a very short temper, but according to a report from the Latin Post, season 4 will see Hank go back to his old self while also exploring a different side to him that has never been shown before.

Hank did get to take down the criminal responsible but the action was rash and not exactly on par with the legal standards of the Chicago Police Department. Because of this, the report speculates that Hank might be losing his potential promotion. It is also stated that his co-workers may be forced to watch over him as he grieves.

Back in May, show runner and executive producer Matt Olmstead did hint about this change in direction in an interview with TV Line. However, this doesn't mean Voight will revert back to taking payouts from criminals and drug dealers and then justifying the actions by giving the cash to help kids in trouble.

"He goes from short fuse to no fuse," Olmstead explained. " It's not like he's in self-destruct mode. His mindset is 'My right and wrongs are that much more cut-and-dry for me, and my desire to right wrongs is that much more clear to me.' It's a different side of Voight, because ain't no way he can lose a son and not have that affect him."

His exact actions are still unknown although fans speculate this might cause the precinct to eventually go up against Voight in order to stop him from doing something that might get him in trouble.

The other members of the precinct will also need to adapt as Voight goes through his depression and grief and how these moments will affect the rest will be seen when "Chicago PD" season 4 premieres this coming Sept. 21.
