Child pleads 'stop mummy driving'

A drunken woman motorist was stopped after her five-year-old daughter was seen banging on the windows of their car shouting "stop mummy driving", police said on Tuesday.

The woman, who has not been named, was found to be four times over the legal drink-drive limit when she was breathalysed in the Falkirk area on Sunday afternoon.

It is believed a member of the public intervened after spotting the distressed girl passenger.

"This motorist was prevented from causing serious injury to herself, her child and other road users," Chief Inspector Donald McMillan of the force's Road Policing Unit said in a statement.

"The child was in an extremely distressed state and we are thankful the incident didn't result in serious injuries."

The incident was one of a dozen drink-drive cases reported by local police as part of a summer safety campaign.
