Cleveland Cavaliers rumors: Kyrie Irving won't play until 2016?

Kyrie Irving is expected to be back in harness for the coming season, although it doesn't look like the All-Star guard will be suiting up once the season opens in October.

As everyone knows, Irving injured his knee cap during game one of the NBA Finals and that served as a big blow for the Cleveland Cavaliers' series against the eventual champions, the Golden State Warriors.

Irving had his knee operated on just last June and the timetable for his return was set between three to four months. Irving is reportedly doing well in rehab and many feel that he would be up and ready once the 2015–16 NBA season kicks off.

But it looks like the Cavaliers are not bent on rushing Irving back to the hardwood and the belief is that he could be out for the rest of 2015. This means that the earliest the Cavs fans would see Irving in action could be by January 2016.

If that would be the case, Matthew Dellavedova and Mo Williams could be elevated to the starting point guard or off-guard position in the early goings. Lebron James may have to hold fort, although it wouldn't be surprising if the Cavs also manage his minutes.

Recall that James played a large chunk of the NBA Finals and the last thing that Cavs want right now is to have another man fall to injury.

The Cavs want a healthy unit come the post season so limiting the minutes of Irving, James, and probably even Kevin Love could be done. Recall that last season, the big three of the Cavs were playing below 100% nursing various injuries.

This time, however, Dan Gilbert and coach David Blatt are trying to play their cards right, making sure that their key players are prepped and ready by the time the NBA Playoffs start in April 2016.
