One man was injured yesterday as eight tornadoes tore through northeast and central Colorado.

Six tornadoes hit the northeast portion of the state, two hit central Colorado, and one touched down near southeast Wyoming. Officials are still working to assess the damage done by the twisters.

The first tornado struck at 11:15 a.m. near Fairplay, Colorado, and damaged a roof. The second twister landed at 12:32 p.m. in Park County, and vitiated about 50 acres of woodland, according to the National Forest Service. A twister at 12:54 p.m. near Grover did not cause any damage.

Four minutes later, a tornado touched down at Blackstone Country Club in Aurora and injured a caddy by throwing a golf cart on top of him.

Paul Cleveland said that he was riding in the golf cart with two other people when it was lifted by the twister and thrown on top of the man.

"I ducked down, protected my head and waited for the worst," Cleveland told the Associated Press.

Captain Diane Lord of the Aurora Fire Department said that the caddy sustained minor injuries.

Tornadoes at 1:12, 1:17, and 1:32 p.m. caused no damage. Most of Colorado was under a tornado watch until 8 p.m. Sunday.

Severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, and hail are expected Monday from "southern Missouri, western Kentucky and west Tennessee to Texas," according to The Weather Channel. Severe winds are expected Tuesday in the lower Mississippi Valley, Tennessee Valley, and Ohio Valley.

Flash floods are also a possibility through Tuesday in the southern and Plains states.

"The greatest risk of flash flooding will be from parts of West Texas into Arkansas, west and middle Tennessee, northern Mississippi and northern Alabama," The Weather Channel said.

"Rainfall totals in excess of 2 inches with high spots of 4 or 5 inches are possible in Arkansas, west Tennessee, northern Mississippi and northern Alabama."

Tornado season in the northern Plains typically lasts from June to August.
