The Dallas Mavericks are beefing up in the middle and the latest player to be added to fill in that need is a former Maverick in Samuel Dalembert.

Dalembert first played for the Mavericks in 2013 before being dealt to the New York Knicks in a multi-player trade in 2014.

Dalembert, along with Jose Calderon, Wayne Ellington and Shane Larkin were moved to the Knicks in 2014 in exchange for Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton.

Dalembert may have done something to impress the Mavericks after a forgettable last time out. That included oversleeping during sessions and pre-games that saw the 34-year-old being suspended at that time.

His sleeping problems continued to persist in New York and it seems that such led to his waiving early in the year. Dalembert has been a free agent ever since until he was given a chance to try out for a slot with the Mavericks.

With his entry, the Mavericks are expected to play Dalembert at backup behind another new face in Zaza Pachulia. Pachulia was earlier acquired from the Milwaukee Bucks in a separate trade in June in exchange for a future second round draft pick.

The Mavs are trying to make do with the available players in the market after that botched deal involving DeAndre Jordan. It will be recalled that Jordan had verbally committed to joining the Mavericks but eventually turned back when the contract-signing phase came around.

It remains to be seen if Dalembert has already resolved his sleeping problem. The details of his contract were not disclosed as per team policy.

Aside from Dalembert, the Mavs have also re-signed forward Charlie Villanueva. Villanueva normed 6.3 points and 2.3 rebounds last season with the Mavs and his return should provide added muscle to the frontline of the Dallas for the coming 2015-16 NBA season.
