'Deadpool 2' release date: sequel greenlit, Cable and X-Force to be featured?

20th Century Fox

"Deadpool" has just released in theaters and is already amassing critical acclaim from fans and critics. According to the Hollywood Reporter, "Deadpool" has proven so successful in its first few days out that a sequel has already been greenlit behind closed doors.

The report continues to state that the sequel will see the return of actor Ryan Reynolds in the titular role and will also bring back writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The duo have been the sole writers of the film's screenplay since it was conceived several years back and with Reynolds have been fighting to keep the movie rated R.

Tim Miller, the director of the new film, is not officially signed on to direct the sequel but according to the report the studios are adamant on keeping the team together, most likely due to the fact that their collaborative effort is the reason why the movie is as good as it is.

While no script is yet in the works, there are a few ideas being tossed left and right regarding where the sequel can go. Reynolds himself has stated that the sequel may introduce the X-Force or at least the team's leader, Nathan Summers aka Cable.

"In the future, if we're doing a bunch more Deadpool movies, we're gonna really explore the X-Men a lot," Reynolds stated in an interview with Filmstarts. "And maybe X-Force. X-Force is really my priority. I really want to get that in."

The X-Force is often viewed as a darker version of the X-Men and are often tasked with missions that are deemed too violent or morally questionable for the X-Men team. Cable is recognized as their leader, a telepathic warrior and son of Cyclops sent back from the future.

Cable and Deadpool have also shared adventures in their respective comic book series. Deadpool has been a member of the X-Force on multiple occassions as well.
