'Destiny 2' Christmas update, event news: 'Dawning' now live on PS4, Xbox One, and PC

The "Dawning" will return on Destiny 2 this Dec. 19.Bungie

"Destiny 2" joins the holiday celebrations with a new Christmas-themed event called "Dawning."

The limited-time event comes with all-new gear, new modes and activities, as well as snowball fights.

Logging into "Destiny 2" nowadays will bring players to festive and social spaces, with both the Tower and the Farm covered in snow and Christmas decorations.

Note though that the snow are more than just decorations. Players can gather enough snow to create snowballs and start snowball fights by tagging fellow guardians. During the event, snowballs will also appear in Strikes. These can be used to stun enemies and cause significant damage.

The highlight of the event is the return of the Crucible Mayhem, a multiplayer mode where Super abilities recharge faster and point values are increased. According to BGR, this is a more chaotic experience in the game's already very competitive arena.

Bungie said players can gain Dawning engram every week by completing various Milestones. This can be done by finishing Mayhem matches or running Strikes.

"Get in the giving mood with new consumables that give rewards to everyone you're playing with," added Bungie.

Those who are not interested in joining Mayhem matches or are not able to complete any but hope to get Dawning items, they have another option. They can purchase via the Eververse Trading Company. Bungie promised that Tess the Awoken merchant will refresh her inventory weekly. Players can use their Bright Dust reserves for their holiday shopping.

"On one week or another during the three-week event, you'll find every Dawning-themed exotic (ship, ghost, sparrow, emote) and every Dawning-themed legendary armor piece on her shelves," Bungie said.

And because "Dawning" is a holiday event after all, players will have the option to give and receive gifts

"Dawning" is now available on "Destiny 2" on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It will be up until Jan. 9.
