Before working on the highly anticipated "Destiny 2," developer Bungie plans to first put out a massive DLC pack for the original. This new content will be released before 2016 ends.

"The team is focused on delivering a large expansion later this year, and a full Destiny sequel in 2017," Bungie wrote on its website.

While the studio is already working on the said "Destiny" DLC, it is not ready to determine a release date for it yet. There's also no information on what it will be all about.

It is rumored, however, that this DLC will be as big, if not bigger, than "The Taken King." Either way, Bungie will be very busy ahead of their development of "Destiny 2."

It is unclear if the statement means that "Destiny 2" will be released next year or work on it will simply begin in 2017. Fans are looking at years of waiting if it is the latter. To put things in perspective, "Destiny" came out in 2014, four years after it was announced to be in development.

If work on "Destiny 2" will just start next year, fans will wait a while before they get their hands on the installment. This is why it was a great move for Bungie to double down on the DLC releases for the current installment. This way, players will have something to turn their attention to as they wait for the sequel.

But Bungie has more reasons to release a "Destiny" DLC pack. The studio and game publisher Activision also know that although fans have been wanting to see "Destiny 2," many still hope to find ways they can expand the current game.

Activision publishing executive Eric Hirshberg recognizes the fans' thirst for more "Destiny" DLC and they do not intend on ignoring that fan demand.

"It's clear fans are hungry for more content than we have been able to create. That passion and loyalty from our fans is something that we don't take for granted," he said, via Gamespot.

"Which is why we're working side by side with Bungie to make sure that in the future, we're able to deliver a more consistent stream of great content and drive even more engagement," he added.

Last month, the company released a large update for "Destiny." Hirshberg said that the April update definitely awakened and "reengaged" the Destiny community after waiting for months for new content.
