Bungie's upcoming multi-player first-person shooter game is scheduled to roll out on Sept. 9, but it's not going to be available for PCs – not in the near future anyway. The developers have instead focused on the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 versions.

When asked last April about a PC version – or the lack of it – design lead Lars Bakken told Eurogamer, "I wish it was that simple. It's pretty complicated. That doesn't mean it can't happen in the future, it just means it won't happen right now."

All four versions of the game were developed by Bungie internally and were not outsourced to a third-party developer. This endeavor has already posed a great challenge for the company.

Pete Parsons, the COO of Bungie, said, "(But) this is a huge and ambitious project for us, and just getting it on one console would be a momentous challenge. Getting it on four on the same day is something we've never even tried before. We wanted to get it right, and we didn't want to add in tonnes more risk."

Parsons wasn't closing the door to a PC version, however. He said, "We love the PC. We hear it too. We ask the question of ourselves."

Destiny takes place in an open world science fiction setting – a post-apocalyptic world 700 years in the future. Rather than calling it a traditional MMO (massively multiplayer online) game, the company refers to it as a "shared world shooter," and players will be able to interact only with other gamers they are "matched" with rather than everyone else on the server.
