"Doctor Who" is back with the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and his human companion Clara (Jenna Coleman) facing new adventures. The show's season 9 premiere saw an impressive mix of comedic and dark moments with the revelation that Missy (Michelle Gomez) isn't dead. The Doctor was also struggling with this particular dilemma: knowing that a child would grow up to be the worst kind of evil, could he kill that child to save a lot of people, including his friends? 

In the episode last Saturday, the Doctor traveled through time and space, only to learn that he was supposed to save Davros, the man who created the Daleks. Only, Davros was still a boy and had no idea what's to become of him in the future. Meanwhile, Missy is alive and well, and in a surprising twist, she wanted the Doctor to consider her as a friend. 

As the Doctor went missing, Missy and Clara teamed up to find him, with the former fearing that he might be in grave danger. The two ladies time traveled to the 12th century and they found the Doctor, a guitar slung around his neck, about to go head to head with someone in a battle. However, Davros' right hand man took him, Clara, and Missy to Skaro, where the Doctor saw his Fourth Face (Tom Baker). 

"If someone who knew the future pointed out a child to you and told you that child grew up totally evil, to be a ruthless dictator who would destroy millions of lives, could you kill that child?" the Doctor's Fourth Face asked.

Davros then showed the Doctor what the Daleks had done — they killed Clara and Missy and they destroyed the TARDIS.  

In the last scene, the Doctor was seen with the younger Davros, pointing his blaster at the boy as he contemplated killing him to fix the future and save his friends. 

Next week, in the episode titled "The Witch's Familiar," the Doctor is trapped and alone in a Dalek city, with no weapon, no TARDIS, and no one to help him. Knowing that he has a great decision to make, will he be able to do what must be done to save the ones who matter to him, or will he choose to be merciful?
