"Dragon Age 4" may take ages before it is ready, but fans should not worry too much, as there have been several rumors and speculations regarding the production status of the game right now. 

This could ultimately indicate that the game may soon have a big reveal since the last iteration for the franchise was 2014's "Dragon Age: Inquisition." Right now though, Bioware, the development studio responsible for the franchise, is rumored to be focusing first and foremost on its multiplayer game "Anthem," meaning other games will have to wait. At the very least, the earliest at which "Dragon Age 4" might arrive could be sometime around 2019, though this should be taken with a grain of salt. 

Meanwhile, those expecting a new format to the fantasy roleplaying game (RPG) might get disappointed as Bioware's Casey Hudson explained that the fourth game will likely follow the story and character-focused patterns of the past games. This means that "Dragon Age 4" will be driven by narrative and character dialogue choices, though Hudson also did mention that the game is being designed to be played long after the story has ended. How they plan to do this remains to be seen.

Speculations point to the upcoming game's post-story elements to be similar to that of "Assassin's Creed: Origins" where the single player world would still be persistent even after the main mission has ended, basically giving players countless more hours of gameplay. Coupled with additional downloadable content (DLC) and expansions, "Dragon Age 4" could very well be one of the busiest games when it gets released.

Those fearing that "Dragon Age 4" might mark the end of the franchise need not worry too much as the developers themselves have confirmed that there will be a "Dragon Age 5" and that the fourth one's story will have to be concluded in another game. Beyond the fifth one though, there are still no plans for an ending of the franchise.
