NBA rumors: Durant, Love joining USA Basketball minicamp

One would almost believe that NBA stars who hold lucrative contracts would shun the opportunity to play for the flag, especially if they are injured or have just recuperated. However, it seems that such is not the case.

With USA Basketball expected to kick off camp in Las Vegas next month, a lot of NBA players coming off sickbay are reportedly going to be there.

Headlining the list are the two 'Kevins' — Kevin Durant and Kevin Love.

Durant missed majority of last season due to a foot injury; while Love injured his shoulder when the Cavs wrapped up their first round assignment with the Boston Celtics.

Of course, they will simply be there to attend minicamp and not to actually play.

Apparently, this has something to do with USA basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo's mandate that players who are interested in a spot on the team must be at camp, even if injured and are unable to participate.

Even though there is no timetable on when the two All-Star forwards can be allowed to play ball again, their interest in playing for the flag is certain to draw admiration from their countrymen. With no promise of being selected due to the large number of invitees, Durant and Love are technically going to be there where their inclusion could be left to chance.

Other players who are expected to be at minicamp, which will be held from Aug. 11-13, include Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Harrison Barnes of the Golden State Warriors, Andre Drummond (Detroit Pistons), Mason Plumlee (Portland Trailblazers), Bradley Beal (Washington Wizards), Gordon Hayward (Utah Jazz), Mike Conley (Memphis Grizzlies), Michael Carter-Williams (Milwaukee Bucks), Kawhi Leonard (San Antonio Spurs), James Harden (Houston Rockets, Blake Griffin (Los Angeles Clippers), and Victor Oladipo (Orlando Magic).

Carmelo Anthony (New York Knicks), Chandler Parsons (Dallas Mavericks) and Paul George (Indiana Pacers) will also be in attendance but will likely not play due to injuries as well.
