Electro-pop 'Youth Anthem' for the Pope's visit

Pope Benedict XVI recently said that music "is called to infuse hope into the human soul, marked and sometimes injured by its earthly condition. It leads towards the construction of a society open to the ideals of the spirit".

The Catholic UK electro-pop band, Ooberfüse, have produced a record to coincide with his historic visit to the UK.

This unique and uplifting track is entitled Heart’s Cry and will get its worldwide digital release on Sunday.

Through the medium of pop music, the Pope hopes to reach out to the younger generations.

Hal, from Ooberfüse, says : “I think this is the first time in history a reigning Pontiff has embraced the forms of popular culture to advance the Christian message of love and hope. We were overjoyed when members of the Bishops’ Organising Committee decided to dub our track the ‘Youth Anthem’ of the papal visit.”

The Pope has said “over the centuries and the millennia music has always been used to give form to what cannot be expressed in words because it arouses emotions otherwise difficult to communicate”.

It is hoped that the young will draw “new inspiration” from this record “in order to build a world founded on justice and solidarity”.

Cherrie, from Ooberfüse, said: “It’s really cool because the song Heart’s Cry matches the theme of the papal visit ‘Heart Speaks Unto Heart.”

Cornel saidf: “We hope people will break out on the dance-floor to the sound of Il Pappa gently proclaiming (with characteristic German accentuation) that ‘Hatred will never reign in the hearts of men again’ and that we should courageously ‘give voice to that cry’, the cry of Love treading with dove’s footsteps in the ‘mysterious and inscrutable’ depths of our hearts.”
