In the United States, the EpiPens have been distributed at civilian and military pharmacies, but the drug manufacturer will soon withdraw its stocks from these retailers. The products that are being recalled include 0.3 mg and 0.15 mg strengths of auto-injectors.

Reports say the decision to retract the EpiPens stems from two reported cases wherein patients claim that the auto-injectors malfunctioned. The epinephrine auto-injectors are used to treat a variety of food and bug allergic reactions. These EpiPens could determine life and death for the patients. In emergency situations, a failed EpiPen could easily lead a patient to his or her death.

With malfunctioning products in the market, Mylan's decision does not come as a surprise. The company might want to investigate further, and sort out the defective EpiPens from the functioning ones. In turn, they can avoid big lawsuits and they can save lives.

According to the company, so far, there have been two recorded instances of the device's malfunctioning. It is therefore safe to say that defects are rare.

Mylan is urging consumers and retailers to communicate with the company about their EpiPens. Auto injectors with lot numbers 5GN767, 5GN773, 5GM640, 6GN215, 6GN082, 6GM072, 6GM081, 6GM088, 6GM199, 6GM091, 6GM198, and 6GM087 are viable for replacement. Consumers and distributors should contact Stericycle at 877-650-3949 to acquire a voucher for the products' replacement.

To note, Mylan will not charge its consumers with extra to have their EpiPens replaced.

Patients may approach any Tricare network retail pharmacy or any Military Treatment Facility pharmacy to have their products exchanged for a new one. Consumers could also make the transaction through Tricare Mail Order Pharmacy.

Mylan is encouraging consumers to report failed products and adverse reactions in terms of their device's quality.
