Evangelical Tour to Highlight Implications of New Religious Laws
A leading evangelical is set to join together with other prominent Christian leaders and spokespeople to lead a national tour of the UK in February 2006.
|TOP|Don Horrocks has led the Evangelical Alliance’s campaigns to protect religious liberty in the wake of a series of parliamentary and legal threats.
The tour has the aim of alerting Christians of the risks that the proposed religious hatred and other proposed legislation on the political agenda could have on religion in the UK.
The duration of the tour will be one month, and will run under the title of ‘The Agenda’. Commencing on Feb. 1st the tour will be hosted by Rob Frost, the Director of Share Jesus International, in addition to Premier Christian Radio, the Evangelical Alliance, and a team sent from the Lawyer’s Christian Fellowship (LCF).
The tour carries the commission to encourage church leaders and other Christians to give a greater appreciation to the implications of the legal alterations being proposed, and in particular to highlight the affects the laws may have on preaching, mission, outreach and community activities, and assuage fears so that Christians do not hold back from continuing to spread the Gospel message.
|QUOTE|Rob Frost explained to the Evangelical Alliance, “There is a lot of confusion around at the moment. Some people seem to be underestimating the impact of this new legislation which is on the horizon, whilst others are over-reacting. It's time we took a cool clear look at the prospects of what lies ahead and begin to prepare the Church properly. I urge all local church leaders to make THE AGENDA an important priority.”
The Head of Public Affairs at the Evangelical Alliance, Dr Horrocks pointed out a number of the threats brought up in Frost’s new book – ‘Freedom Fighters – Defending Christian Freedoms in a Politically Correct Age’.
Joel Edwards, General Director of the Evangelical Alliance said, “This tour is a positive means of equipping the Church to respond intelligently to current critical issues.”
Rev David Coffey, General Secretary of the Baptist Union, and Rev Tom Stuckey, President of the Methodist Conference, have also commended the tour.
