Rockfish Games' successful 3D space sim "Everspace" might just be the newest sci-fi title to drop on the console as developers confirm that a port for the popular single-shooter is now in the works.

In an interview with Wccftech, Rockfish Game's co-founder and current CEO Michael Schade officially confirmed that a port for the Nintendo Switch is now under development and was started not long ago.

When asked about the upcoming project, Schade expressed excitement on the new venture. He said that seeing as he and his team were originally developing games for the mobile platform, the Switch project is something that they consider a fitting endeavor seeing as the hybrid console has appropriate controllers and equipment to handle "Everspace."

"For a team with its root in mobile gaming, we are super excited about the Switch, naturally. We have always loved the ubiquity of mobile gaming devices in general, and the Switch even comes with proper analog controllers which is very much needed if you want to have a proper console-style experience on the go – as much fun it was to play Galaxy on Fire 1 and 2 on smartphones and tablets, touch controls have never been the best fit for a 6DOF space shooter," he shared.

Schade also praised Nintendo's current approach of offering fans a supreme mobile gaming experience, which ensures games are of high-quality and is compatible with the console. Nintendo's unparalleled success in this regard compelled Schade and his studio to consider porting their popular space simulator onto the Switch platform.

"More importantly, Nintendo's DNA has always been a great 'mobile' gaming experience with a premium pricing policy keeping the perceived value of its games at console level and keeping the platform from being cluttered by too many shovelware. The success of the Switch proved Nintendo right, and we have started looking into an Everspace port a few weeks ago," Schade emphasized.

On top of this, Schade also shared that early tests on the console revealed a seamless transition for "EverSpace." He said that the game is running smoothly on the Switch, however, various optimizations are still going to be put into order.

Despite the confirmation, details about the game's pricing and launch date are still being kept under wraps.

"Everspace" is a space simulation single player shooter imbued with rogue-like features and has a non-conforming storyline. It will see players battle against sectors and upgrade their war machines in order to advance into the increasingly difficult levels.

Currently, "Everspace" is available on Xbox One and the PC platform, which includes a Windows and a Mac version.
