"Extant" is one TV series that may still need to see if a future is there since rumors have it that the show has been canceled.

Although season 3 of the show still needs confirmation on whether it has been canceled or renewed, some sources suggest that it is highly likely that CBS will take in another season.

The show better return for season 3 because the previous season left so many unanswered questions that only brand new episodes would be able to answer.

Season 2's finale ended with a cliffhanger, and according to Bustle, this indicates that the show's production team believes they can continue with new storylines.

"Extant" saw a few challenges, which is why speculations suggest a cancelation. The second season garnered only 4.3 million viewers and Cartermatt rated it with a 0.7 among 18 to 49-year-old viewers.

Still, fans of the show are hopeful that the TV series would indeed get a renewal. Bustle also reported that season 2 is much better than season 1, which only shows that the series is improving.

The budget is also working against the TV series considering it stars Academy Award winning icons like Halle Berry and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the main characters, which means producing the series and coming up with the set won't come cheap.

Despite these factors, fans should not lose hope just yet; ratings may be a big factor but it isn't the only factor to consider if a show gets to stay or needs to be canceled.

Just the presence of popular lead stars would also help. In addition, Berry and Steven Spielberg are the show's executive producers, and they just might have a positive influence over the network and viewers.

Meanwhile, a report from Yibada notes that the renewal of season 2 took place on October 9, 2014, which suggests that news about a season 3 renewal might be some time in October this year.

There's speculation that CBS could just be delaying the show's announcement to generate some hype around it.
