"Falling Skies" is nearing its end with only three episodes left. Episode 8, titled "Stalag 14th Virginia," will primarily focus on Tom (Noah Wyle) as he leads the 2nd Mass. out through their escape while Maggie (Sarah Sanguin Carter) and Isabella (Catalina Sandino Moreno) are forced to work together to ensure that everyone makes it out alive. 

However, the official promotional trailer for the episode showcases several people lined up with bags over their heads. As pointed out in a report from CarterMatt, it is possible that this may be a firing squad execution. More shocking, however, is that it appears they are being executed by the military forces from Norfolk instead of the aliens. 

If this is true, then episode 8 will start to pile up the body count rather quickly as more people get killed in the show's finale. The aliens have been the main focal point for the show throughout season 5 that this episode might serve as a reminder that the human threat is still very real and present. 

The synopsis also reveals that Weaver (Will Patton) discovers a shocking truth regarding "an old friend" and will now have to decide on the best possible course to ensure the safety of the 2nd Mass. regiment. It is likely that this friend is Weaver's old comrade who now leads the military force at Norfolk, Virginia. 

Fans speculate that this "shocking truth" may reveal that the Norfolk army is working hand in hand with the aliens in order for them to be given leniency once the latter has completely taken over the planet. Other speculations say that they might be trying to save mankind and see the 2nd Mass. as an obstacle to that end. 

There are very few left to fight and win the war so Weaver's decisions will play a big part in the upcoming episode. There won't be much of a resistance left if the military ends up killing most of the 2nd Mass. 

"Falling Skies" season 5 episode 8 airs on Aug. 16.
