'Fallout Shelter' for Android out August 13

Bethesda blog

Last month, game company Bethesda confirmed "Fallout 4," the fourth installment in their successful "Fallout" series. Along with this was the announcement of a stand-alone mobile title called "Fallout Shelter.". However, many mobile gaming fans were a bit disappointed when the company published the title only for iOS devices, and clamored for the release to also include a version for the Android platform. Bethesda, listening to fans' demands, heeded the request, and will come out with the "Fallout Shelter" for Android next month

The big-name game developer announced the good news together with a host of other details at the annual Quakecon convention. Aside from the Android release, the post-apocalyptic mobile game title is also set to receive a major update soon. Bethesda did not give a specific rollout date for the major improvement patch, although observers guess that the publisher will wait first for the new version release before simultaneously updating both Android and iOS platform versions. Speculations place the rollout of the update at the end of August or early September.

The update will add Mr. Handy, which would be familiar to hardcore "Fallout" fans, as the robot is a mainstay on previous iterations of the game. Mr. Handy will be unlocked as a reward for players in-game, although it is still not clear what the requirements are in order to acquire the robot assistant. The character will reprise his role on the "Fallout" world, where players assign the assistant to move around the Vault and collect resources automatically. In addition, Mr. Handy can also be sent out of the Vault to explore the wasteland and defend the Vault from attackers.

In addition to the new character, the update will also diversify the attacks, importing new enemies from the previous "Fallout" games such as Deathclaws and Molerats.

"Fallout Shelter" is slated to be released for Android devices on Aug. 13.
