Ewan McGregor's female counterpart for the third season of "Fargo" has been cast.

Reports confirmed that "The Leftover" star Carrie Coon has been tapped to portray the role of Edna Valley chief of police Gloria Burgle.

According to the description of Coon's character, Gloria is "a practical woman who grabs the fire extinguisher when the bacon catches fire and everyone else panics."

She is also a newly divorced mother who is having a hard time understanding why people around her are more connected with their mobile phones instead of connecting with their loved ones.

Compared to the first two seasons of "Fargo" that were set in 2006 and 1979, the setting for the upcoming season will be in 2010. The cast will be led by McGregor, who will portray two roles as brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy.

The network described Emmit as the "handsome, self-made, real estate mogul and family man" who is dubbed as the "Parking Lot King of Minnesota." But while viewers will find Emmit as an ideal success story, his younger brother is quite the opposite. Ray is described as "the kind of guy who peaked in high school" but suffered a lot of misfortunes. Based on the character descriptions, the Stussy brothers do not often see each other eye to eye.

While more details about the plot have yet to be unveiled, a spokesperson from FX confirmed Tuesday that the series will be shot in Calgary sometime in November.

But while series creator Noah Hawley confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter in December that none of the former lead characters will return in the show's third season, he revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the plots of all three will be connected.

"There are going to be connections, the way the first year was connected to the movie and the second year was connected to the first, but I think part of the fun is figuring that stuff out and I wouldn't want to take that away from anybody," Hawley said. "There will be definitely things that connect to something in our story."

"Fargo" season 3 is expected to premiere sometime in spring 2017.
