"Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn" and its expansions initially launched for the PC back in 2013. A PS3 port was immediately available and a year later the game was ported for the PS4. According to a report from Polygon, Xbox One owners may finally get to play the game as director Naoki Yoshida teases a potential port.

"When our team reviewed the regulations that are associated with that, we realized that Microsoft may not have the experience or understanding of running an MMORPG as an online game genre just yet," Yoshida explained."The 'Final Fantasy 14' team has fed back to Microsoft that there are certain elements of its regulations that we would have to consider waived. We're waiting on Microsoft's response for that, but we are having discussions."

It is further explained that during the beginning phases of the game's development there were plans of immediately porting the game to the Xbox 360 or Xbox One but this was dropped when they discovered that the Xbox One would not immediately support cross-platform gaming.

Microsoft reportedly changed their opinion on this, and during E3 they did confirm that they were pushing for the Xbox One and Windows to be cross-platform friendly. This may open the doors for Xbox One port, although Yoshida did not state if this will take place within the year or by 2017.

Fans speculate that the Xbox One port may be released alongside the Xbox One S and the Xbox Scoprio, two different versions of the Xbox One that are being compared to the PS4 and the PlayStation Neo.

During the interview, Yoshida also confirmed that Square-Enix will continue supporting the PS3 for the entirety of the game's 3.x updates. Patch 3.3, which is titled "Revenge of the Horde," was launched just last week. However, once patches 4.0 begin rolling out it is possible they will focus solely on the PC, Xbox One and PS4.
