According to a report from Gematsu, Square-Enix has unveiled several key mechanics for its upcoming video game, "Final Fantasy XV." One of the most significant details include the mechanics of gaining and controlling an Astral, which is similar to the summons of previous games.

The report reveals only one Astral thus far, the giant Titan, which carries a rock on its back. According to the report, the Niflheim army will try to use their full military might to kill the Astral but the main player character, Noctis, will lead his team to interfere with their plans. If the player can exhibit their strength to the Titan Astral, it will lend its power. 

From there on the player may be able to summon the Titan and use its abilities in combat.

It is further explained in the report that the game is not going to follow a linear story and is instead structured around quests. Players will progress in the story by taking and completing major quests but there are also many smaller sub-quests that can be completed to gain better gear and gold, level up their characters and know more about the world. 

Levelling up is also different in "Final Fantasy XV." The report states that during the night players can camp and it is during this moment of rest that their total experience gained from the day before is tallied. Players then level up if they have reached enough experience points to go up one rank.

Combat mechanics have also been detailed, such as the ability to shift or teleport in and out of the combat area or to use the guard button to block or evade incoming attacks. Doing these maneuvers consumes MP (magic or mana points). 

The report also confirms that there are many different weapons, ranging from a one-handed sword to spears and magical attacks. Players simply need to hold down the attack button to launch a combo and can use the directional buttons to switch between their available arsenal. 

"Final Fantasy XV" launches for the PS4 and Xbox One on Sept. 30.
