After a delay in its October release, Square Enix has now launched the promised multiplayer expansion for "Final Fantasy XV," titled "Comrades."

With this, players could team up with three others in battle, as well as have their own avatars. "Set in a world engulfed by darkness, the expansion casts players as a member of the Kingsglaive, with powers and unique abilities invoked from various Lucian kings, who join forces to bring the Light back to the kingdom of Lucis," the description reads.

The release of this downloadable content (DLC) is as timely as it could get, with the launch of the game "Final Fantasy XV" anniversary nearing. Comicbook reported that the game would be filled with quests and assignments for players to take on.

When "Final Fantasy XV: Comrades" went live, it was accompanied with a trailer. The epic clip showed the characters fighting some beasts, and it ended with a reminder to cooperate with other players, "Fight as one. Survive together."

The multiplayer expansion "Final Fantasy XV: Comrades" also features options for people without friends or acquaintances they could play with. Gamers could use the Quick Play option to find other players to form a team with. For those who want less human interaction, there is also an artificial intelligence (AI) option.

In the game, players get to take on the role of a member of a Kingsglaive. They will be fighting the reign of darkness while Noctis is gone. The story will follow chapter 13 of the game. Developer Square Enix also revealed that some of Noctis' team members, like Gladiolus, Prompto, and Ignis would arrive in the following updates.

"Final Fantasy XV" Comrades is available to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users who have the Season Pass. Players could also avail of the multiplayer expansion for $20. Aside from these, gamers need to have a PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscription.
