It seems the ending of "Final Fantasy XV" has not yet been finalized, as the game's director has asked fans whether they want a sad or happy ending for the future downloadable contents (DLCs) of the game.

Hajime Tabata, the game director in question working for Square Enix, the game's publisher and developer, is quite torn between what endings the game's expansions need, that is why he is letting the fans decide how they turn out. Tabata specifically questioned if fans wanted a "super bad" or "happy" ending, not "super happy" sadly, during a greeting event for the game.

Tabata will then consider the answers of the fans in formulating the endings for the DLCs of "Final Fantasy XV." Though this means that each ending of the three or four remaining DLCs might vary in resolution depending on the fans' answers or how close the verdicts are, for all they know, Tabata could opt to make the endings vary, just to balance out the fans' opinions.

This was quite a crucial creative decision for the game since the next two years for "Final Fantasy XV" are expected to be full of new story content. Since Tabata still controls the creative flow of the game, he could also decide to make the endings of each DLC into a branching path that players can control depending on their choices, much like non-linear roleplaying games (RPGs).

Ultimately, this move will prolong the lifespan and popularity of "Final Fantasy XV," which was released back in Nov. 2016 on the consoles but is still popular until now, perhaps due to an impending PC release and the consistent DLC releases. The fact that the game will still be getting new content up until next year means that support for the game will also be present and ongoing throughout the future until Square Enix decides to finally pull the plug and move on to another "Final Fantasy" project.

How the said endings turn out for the remaining DLCs remains to be seen, and fans should keep their eyes peeled.
