Floyd Mayweather vs Amir Khan fight news: Khan hopes Mayweather bout will materialize

It seems that Chris Algieri is becoming the stepping stone for fighters to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. next.

Amir Khan is set to face Chris Algieri this Friday and a victory will propel him to potentially face undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. Though it doesn't look like an actual trend, it can be recalled that Manny Pacquiao also had a bout with Chris Algieri before facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. earlier this May.

But Khan needs to pull a win first to follow the route and many believe that he can successfully do so when the two fighters get it on in New York this Friday. Assuming he wins, an announcement should be made thereafter.

It will be recalled in another article that Khan claimed he was approached by the manager of Mayweather Jr. which seemed to point that the British boxer would be the final opponent of the unbeaten boxer. It will reportedly be Mayweather's last boxing match, a victory of which will allow him to match the 49-0 record of boxing great Rocky Marciano.

Despite his pronouncement, many believe that it will not be the last. In fact, critics believe that he will return next year to fight Manny Pacquiao despite his constant denial.

Khan is however someone that the Mayweather camp should not take lightly.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. believes that Floyd Jr. will have an easier opponent in Khan though there is more at stake for Mayweather since he is protecting an undefeated card and going for an equalizing victory to Marciano's 49-0 record. Hence, the camp of Mayweather cannot take Khan lightly.

But before anyone, including Khan, even entertains the thought, he needs to win this Friday. Just like Mayweather, Khan cannot take Algieri lightly.

Despite being a favorite, Algieri could pull off a stunner which could endanger Khan's date with Mayweather this September. Hence, there is pressure for Khan to win and convincingly.
