Former Mars Hill church sells for $9 million
One of the properties owned by Mars Hill Church in Seattle has been sold at a $4.2 million profit – to another church.
The 15,000-member megachurch announced its closure last year following a string of revelations about the conduct of its leadership team under former pastor Mark Driscoll. Its separate campuses have closed or been reconstituted as independent churches.
The flagship Ballard Blocks property was bought for $4.8 million in 2003 and upgraded to seat more than 1,000 people. It has been bought by Quest Church for $9 million, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal. The church will move to the building later this year.
Another Mars Hill property for sale is its corporate headquarters, on offer for $6.9 million, down from its autumn asking price of $7.725 million.
Mars Hill is selling another former church property in Sammamish following a decision by the congregation there to merge with the Bellevue congregation. The asking price has dropped from $8.75 million to $6.9 million.
