Actor George Clooney and his wife Amal Alamuddin are certainly among the most high-profile couples around. The couple, who tied the knot in a glamorous wedding in Venice, Italy last year, is often photographed dining in the best restaurants and walking the red carpet decked out in the most elegant evening wear. Earlier this week, however, Clooney took his wife home to Kentucky to show her the simple pleasures of good food, family, and to enjoy some good old Southern hospitality in his hometown.

According to Us Weekly, the "Tomorrowland" actor and the human rights lawyer touched down in Augusta, Kentucky for Clooney's annual family reunion and stopped by the actor's favorite local bakery, Magee's. Magee's owner, Russell Dickson, told Us Weekly that Clooney and his wife were "fun as a couple."

"They ordered the transparent, that's his thing, he loves the transparent," Dickson said of the actor, who treats himself to the pastry whenever he's in town.

Dickson told E! News that it was the first time that Alamuddin had ever tasted a transparent — also called a clear pie or cellophane pie — and that she absolutely loved the treat. He said that he also chatted with the lawyer about how she's finding Southern food, and that she mentioned that she has become a fan of country breakfasts, biscuits and gravy.

Dickson added that Clooney's family has been a regular customer for years and that the actor stops by "maybe once a year or so." The bakery owner posted photos on his business' Facebook page, showing the pair's visit and joked on the social media site that Magee's was the star in the picture.

Posting pictures of the staff and the happy couple, Dickson wrote, "This guy and his wife show up wanting to take pictures. This one time would not hurt. Fame, what can you do."

On Tuesday night, E! reported that the couple attended a private party where Alamuddin was introduced to several people who weren't able to attend their Italy wedding.

"He was really excited to introduce her to those who didn't go to the wedding or didn't know much about her. He's proud. They are a loving couple and he seemed very proud," an insider told the website.
